And, the more mods you install, the less likely you will be to easily resolve issues in Vortex. However, it is no where near as powerful as Mod Organizer 2. Vortex is simple, straightforward, and easy to use. However, with a game like Fallout 4, where there are literally hundreds of top notch mods, it is doubtful that you will keep your mod count in single digits. If you’re only using a handful of mods, it is possible to manually install them. Set the Steam and Steam Library as “safe” or “ignore” within your anti-virus/security suite of programs including, but not limited to, Windows internal programs. Make sure your Steam Library folder does not exist under either Program Files folder. Install Steam to its own path, outside of Windows’ Program Files folders. ![]() Fortunately, there is a simple solution to prevent problems in the first place. Troubleshooting and/or working around this problem is well beyond the scope of this guide. The end result of this is that you may sometimes experience errors, glitches, and even crashes that are completely unrelated to the game itself, but rather Windows seizing control of and denying access to files and folders. Even on a single user machine, the user is not, and does not have access to, the same as the escalated Administrator account, even when that user is categorized as an Administrator. This is not a Fallout 4 problem, it is a Windows/Windows User Acces Control problem. Prior to Fallout 4, I had not had any problems in this respect, although I know many had and still have problems. As a result, sometimes non-standard programs, regardless of whether you choose “Run as Administrator” through right-clicking or ticking under Compatibility, will be denied access to files and/or subfolders. Windows treats its Program Files folders a bit differently than user created folders. Please note that the default Steam install directory is \Program Files (x86). Please post all issues on the Fallout 4 Discussions, where there are many more people that might be able to help. I can try to help you, but I can not guarantee I can, or can in a timely fashion. If they are not working for you, you may have made an error during install, most likely forgetting to read and/or grab required patches or selecting the wrong options during the FOMOD install process. I have verified that all of these mods will work together. Please let me know what additional info I need to provide. If you are having problems with mods or with your install, please refer to the mod pages, your load order, and your patches before considering your install broken. I know this isn't related to Sim Settlements in any way, but the community is full of very knowledgeable people so I'm hoping someone has an idea how to fix the problem. ![]() That can't be the problem though because the old PC also has Windows 10 with DirectX 12. I've tried reinstalling DirectX 10 to the Fallout folder, but no joy. Some said that it was a DirectX problem - Fallout 4 uses DirectX 10 (June 2010) but Windows 10 uses DirectX 12. ![]() Researching the web found quite a few other posts of the same problem going back several years. ![]() I've verified integrity of the game cache (several times) and uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but that didn't help. I moved the game files and save files from my old PC to the new one and then installed using Steam. Other games (Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Skyrim) are OK. The title screens (TV test pattern or SPECIAL video) have sound, but once I get to the main menu and beyond, there is no sound. I bought a new MSI GT75 but when I run Fallout 4 (or Skyrim SE) there is no sound in game. Last month it started turning itself off after a few minutes whenever I played any game. I've been playing Fallout 4 since it came out on an MSI GT72S.
